Stop Wasting Heat in Your Fab
Let’s be honest: when you’re running a fab, every watt that doesn’t actually hit the wafer is just a waste of money. Worse, it turns your chassis into a heater, forcing your HVAC to work overtime just to keep the room from overheating. Standard quartz lamps are the culprit here. They radiate energy in every direction. In a precision setup, about half that heat is heading the wrong way—straight back into the lamp housing instead of onto your product.
The Magic of Gold
We fix this by putting a specialized gold coating on the back of the lamp. Why gold? Because it’s incredible at bouncing infrared spectra. Instead of letting those photons wander off into your equipment, the gold layer flips them around and sends them right back toward the wafer. You end up with a focused beam. It’s a simple trick, but it means you get way more heat flux on the surface without having to pull more power from your electrical panel.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
Now, more energy density sounds great, but you have to be careful with your thermal gradients. If the coating is too aggressive or the lamp is sitting too close, you’ll get hot spots. And as you know, a hot spot is a great way to warp a thin wafer. You’ll also want to double-check your PID controllers. Since the heat hits faster, your controllers need to be ready for that quicker ramp-up. We designed these to be drop-in replacements, which makes life easier. Just do me a favor and verify the physical footprint first. A coated lamp can expand a bit differently than a clear tube when things get hot.
Where This Actually Matters
This is for the jobs where “fast and uniform” isn’t just a goal—it’s a requirement. We see the biggest wins in curing and dehydration. You get more effective heat where it matters, which means your cycle times drop. Just one last tip: make sure your cooling fans can handle the concentrated heat at the focal point. It’s a lot of energy in a small space, so give it some room to breathe.
